Cost

In Dublin, the benefits of doing business far outweigh the costs.

Dublin is competitive in terms of cost of living rates when compared with other locations in the European Union and around the world. Dublin is also an affordable location to do business thanks to low tax rates and rents. Combined with a relatively low cost for highly skilled labour, Dublin is an ideal location to do business in a period when businesses are keenly aware of the need to maintain fiscal restraint.

Dublin offers its residents a low cost of living. In 2012, commercial rates bills in most areas within the four local authorities that encompass Dublin were under 2%. Meanwhile, the commercial stamp duty for properties in Dublin is 6%. According to the Mercer Cost of Living Report, in 2005, Dublin ranked 10th in terms of cost of living. In 2011, Dublin ranked 58th. Office rents and Dublin house prices have decreased considerably since their peak in 2007.

Nationally, Ireland is also competitive and attractive for businesses operating in the country.

Ireland has maintained a low corporate tax rate since the 1950s, which currently sits at a rate of 12.5%. Tax relief is also offered for the transfer of intangible assets in Ireland, and the government provides a research and development tax credit of 25%. Ireland is also ranked first for investment incentives, according to the MD Worldwide Competitiveness Yearbook 2011, thanks to financial incentives for capital grants, employment grants, research and development grants, and training grants.
