The Audi A3
Designed by a Dubliner.
Shared with the world.

Dublin’s designers have been on the cutting edge of fashion, industrial design, visual design and art since the later half of the 20th century. The city’s designers have been challenging perceptions and design concepts with iconic buildings, haunting artwork and refined design. One of the city’s most accomplished designers is redefining automotive design as one of Audio’s leading innovator.

David Caffrey began shaping cars as a panel-beater on Liberty Lane in Dublin’s city centre. After initially leaving school, commitment and drive brought Caffrey to the halls of several colleges and universities where he mastered design and technology

As Audi’s top designer, Caffrey is guiding every line on some of the automotive industry’s leading and most attractive vehicles. He helped design the sought-after Audi A3, playing a key role in designing the vehicle’s interior.

Caffrey also led the design of the Q5 compact crossover SUV, which was launched in 2011.

Caffrey continues to reshape automotive design concepts. A move to join Audi and Volkswagen’s concept design studio in Los Angeles is solidifying his role as one of the industry’s most accomplished designers. Born in Dublin, Caffrey is just one of the city’s sons and daughters that are contributing to the world of design and technology. This depth in talent is thanks to the city’s young population and a nation that has a strong commitment and tradition of investing in education and skills training. Together, these designers are shaping how individuals around the world see and perceive products, from clothes to gaming software to cars.
