Diversity

In Dublin, you will find a cross-section of the world.

Walking down Grafton Street or Temple Bar, you can see the diversity of Dublin in everyday life. From restaurants serving global cuisine, to music and dance from countless cultures, to fashion styles from around the world, the entire globe is represented in our people, places and spirit.

Dublin is increasing multicultural, with people from some 188 countries calling the city home. In 2006, approximately 15% of Dublin’s population were non-Irish citizens according to the National Census. Much of the city’s changing demographics can be attributed to Dublin’s rapid economic growth.

The technology sector has seen some of the most growth, with start-ups and multinationals alike establishing roots in Dublin and making the city an emerging new media capital.

Throughout the city, events and attractions celebrate our diverse cultural influences. Dublin is home to several Asian and African markets. Shops and market stalls at the George’s Street Arcade, Grafton Street, and in Temple Bar offer buyers styles from nations all over the world. Also in Temple Bar, the sounds of salsa, blues, and music from around the world can be heard at the Music Centre. Dublin’s Irish Film Centre and Screen Cinema also showcases films produced in countries throughout the globe. And since 2008, the Dublin Chinese New Year Festival has featured dances, music, seminars and workshops, and a film festival.
